The Albatros D III was a single-seat scout fighter that entered service in early 1917. Equipped with two fixed 7.92 mm LMG 08/15 machine-guns and with a top speed of 109 mph, the DIII was a major asset for the Germans in World War I. Lieutenant Hermann Goring flew this Albatros D III while in command of Jasta 27 (fighting unit). He assumed this prestigious post on May 21, 1917 after accumulating nearly two dozen kills and the Blue Max. (G Series-Yellow Box) |
