FIREBALL XL5 is flown by dynamic pilot Colonel Steve Zodiac and his co-pilot Robert the Robot. They are assisted by science officer and navigator Mathew "Matt" Mattic and glamorous space doctor, Venus. Also accompanying the crew is Zoonie, a strange looking creature called a Lazoon who is the pet of Venus. Gerry Anderson and Sylvia Anderson were the British husband and wife production team behind several futuristic children's television shows involving specially modified marionettes, a process called "supermarionation". Their most famous production is Thunderbirds, which was produced by their production company, originally known as AP Films and later renamed Century 21 Productions in collaboration with partners Reg Hill and John Read. The couple married in 1960 and were divorced in 1980. Their creative, and marital partnership concluded during the production of Space: 1999 in the mid-1970s. |
