The only U.S. Air Force pilot ace of the Vietnam War, Capt. Steve Ritchie destroyed five MiG 21s during Operation Linebacker in 1972. Born in Reidsville, NC, he was a star quarterback in high school. At the U. S. Air Force Academy, he continued playing football, as starting halfback for the Falcons in 1962 and 1963.
