About this Model: Designed to replace the US Navy's A-4 Skyhawk, the A7 was first flown on September 27th, 1965 and is one of only a few US Navy aircraft that are also operated by the US Air Force. The A-7's configuration is characterized by a turbofan engine, high wing, low horizontal tail, large chin inlet and short landing-gear legs that retract into the fuselage. Often called the SLUFF (short little ugly fat fellow) the A-7 is a sophisticated, integrated, highly versatile airborne weapon system capable of performing a variety of search, surveillance and attack missions. |
